Curriculum Statement

At Windrush Thamesmead, the curriculum acknowledges our school’s unique characteristics and meets the needs of our children. The aim is to provide opportunities for all children to develop as independent, confident, successful learners with high aspirations. Through the curriculum we deliver, pupils will become understanding British citizens who make a positive contribution to their community and wider society. Aspirational expectations will combine the acquisition of knowledge and the progressive development of skills to create a purposeful and imaginative learning journey for every child.

The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, National Curriculum (2014) and other experiences and opportunities which best meet the learning and developmental needs of the pupils in our school

Each subject has its own discipline and this is explicit in the teaching. Links are made across subjects to strengthen children’s understanding. Pupils make more connections across the curriculum as a whole when subjects are thoroughly taught and carefully linked.

Our subject overviews show the development of each of the subjects across the school. Our curriculum is enhanced as each half term pupils undertake a visit or have visitors in school to enrich their learning. Further opportunities to extend pupils experience include after school clubs and community events.

Developing pupils' independence and motivation as learners and their sense of responsibility as future citizens is at the heart of all our teaching and learning. Windrush is a caring and supportive community, which helps develop pupil confidence and enables them to become better learners, both in school and in life.

If you require any curriculum information for your child's specific year group, the school sends out Curriculum Newsletters/Homework Menus towards the end of the half term. Please follow the link below that will take you directly to our Supporting your Child at Home page and you can click on your child's year groups at the side:
